Things To Do This Week In Sonoma County

If you’re looking for fun to be had this weekend, we have quite a list of events. This Saturday is LumaCON in Petaluma, a chance to rub elbows with graphic artists and comic book authors, and even dress as your favorite character. You can taste the best chowders in the county, and vote on your favorites at the annual Bodega Bay Chowder Day. And you can enjoy live music and guitar workshops at the annual Sebastopol Guitar Festival. All this and more is in our list of things to do.

Friday, Jan. 29
Winter Pozole Night: Instead of heading home after work this Friday, head over to Roseland Elementary in Santa Rosa for a big bowl of pozole. From 5:30-8 p.m., enjoy a night of family festivities, a dance performance and more at this fundraising event for the school’s uniform program and Padres Unidos Leadership Group, a program of Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County. Tickets are $5, and there will also be raffle tickets for sale. Find out more at capsonoma.org.

Saturday, Jan. 30
LumaCON: This Saturday, meet authors and illustrators, peruse comics and graphic novels, dress like your favorite character and more. The annual LumaCON is a free event for students and their families, and is geared toward anyone with an appreciation toward comics, pop culture and art. The convention will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at the Petaluma Community Center at Lucchesi Park in Petaluma. Find out all the details at www.lumacon.net.

Saturday, Jan. 30
Bodega Bay Chowder Day: This self-guided culinary tour is one your tastebuds won’t want to miss. Spend your Saturday visiting any or all participating locations for a taste of clam chowder, and then vote for your favorite. Tickets are only $10, and go on sale at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event at a drive thru ticket booth in the Harbor View neighborhood. Find out all the details at visitbodegabayca.com.

Sebastopol Guitar Festival: Enhance your Saturday with a full day of concerts, workshops and exhibits at the 4th annual Sebastopol Guitar Festival. From noon to 10 p.m. at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center, enjoy great concerts by Jim Hurst, Mike Stadler and more. Tickets for a full day pass are $28 in advance, or $40 at the door. Saturday, Jan. 30
Beers & Brats Festival: This fundraising dinner supports the Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus as they prepare for their European tour. From 6-9 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Veterans Building, enjoy beer, brats, sauerkraut, German salads and desserts. There will also be a silent and live auction, raffles, door prizes and more, plus a concert by the chorus. Tickets are $50. Find out more at their Facebook events page.

Saturday, Jan. 30
Vietnamese Tet Festival: Bring in the Year of the Monkey at the biggest festival of the Vietnamese Heritage. Held in the Grace Pavilion at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, the festival opens at 4 p.m., with the opening ceremony commencing at 5 p.m. The evening will include cultural music and dance, Vietnamese cuisine, games and more. Jan. 30-31
Mensona Kennel Club: This weekend at the Lyttle Cow Palace at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, watch a few dozen smart dogs take part in agility trials. This entertaining event is free to attend, and takes place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out all the details at mensona.org.
